Q: would lung or prostate cancer show up on a blood test?
i have got my blood and urine test and it came back ok, although i do have chest pains, shortness of breath sometimes, frequent urination and lower back pains, but i do not have a cough.

A: to test for prostate cancer, they need to check your PSA level (prostate specific antigen) or perform a digital examination (per rectum). ask your doctor.

Q: Does anyone else have frequent urination problems?
I went to the doctor and I had a high PSA. He did a biopsy and I don’t have cancer. I don’t have an enlarged or inflamed prostate. He doesn’t think the high PSA and the frequent urination are related. I don’t have a problem starting to urinate and it doesn’t hurt or burn. I just have to go all of the time.
I kept track one day of how many times I urinated and it was 15 times in a 24 hour period. I drink about 36 oz of fluid a day.

A: Yeah i have the same problem But i have to wear diapers because of the meds. i take for extreme Vertigo I cant tell when i have to pee but i go through about 20 diapers in 24 hours!! So it’s a lot. But I am A nutcase and i am use to wearing diapers so it don’t matter….Wet diaper Raul!!! LOL….did i win….. did i win….. did i win???

Q: Occasional frequent urination- NO OTHER SYMPTOMS!!!?
on and off for about 6 years i have had occasional frequent urination with no side effects. Sometimes I will go full strength and a full amount just an hour or so after the last time. Sometimes I feel that I havent voided completely after going. Sometimes I feel this pressure in my bladder/urethra.
I am a healthy 32 yr old male. All tests..i mean ALL..cancer, IC, all stds, etc etc even prostate. ALL NEGATIVE. Diabites as well- negative..
Anyone have similar symptoms or any clue?? They say anything more than 8x a day is too often. I rarely reach that, but this weekend- I just cannot stop going!! No increase in fluid intake either..
Help!

A: There isn’t anything like 8 times I can recall offhand. Is it that you are spending time in an area where it is cold. Maybe the air-conditioning is turned up more than it suits you, for that is another cause of frequent diuresis.

Cold temperature causes constriction of our blood vessels of the skin, the total area of which, and the volume of the blood they contain, is considerable. This constriction channels the blood into our deepr systemic circulation to maintain body heat and prevent loss of it through the skin. This causes increased filtration by the kidneys since the body senses an increased load. We do not have to take more fluids to experience this. This is one factor likely.

Another is NGU and cyctitis. There are organisms that aren’t picked up by routine tests and cultures. Chlamydia mainly. They may present with mild discomfort at micturition or none at all. Sometimes they may present with severe dysuria.

Further, frequency, or frequent passage of urine could ensue.

These are two possibilities.

Q: Unnecessary prostate exam?
My husband has a family history of prostate cancer: his father and both grandfathers have had it and his father had cancer at 45. He is now 25 and has been having trouble with frequent urination. When he went for his routine physical, he discussed his family history and symptom with the doctor and was told a DRE and a blood test were unnecessary until he is 40. Of course he didn’t WANT these tests, but he is now a little afraid for his health. What age is normal for a guy to have his prostate checked, particularly with a family history of prostate cancer? Do you guys have it done when you get physicals? (Please post your age).

A: They don’t do prostate screenings routinely until age 35, but if a male is presenting with symptoms of prostate trouble (like your husband’s frequent urination), they will do the exam at any age.

I had my first prostate exam at age 26 when I was suspected of having epididymitis, although it was probably prostatodynia (unexplained prostate pain).

Q: Father was nauseated and fall unconscious on the floor?
My father is 60 and today he fell unconscious for a couple of seconds on the bathroom floor after he was nauseated. He’s eyes were wide open and when my mother panicked and screamed…he came back to consciousness.
This is the first time this has happened.
Sometimes he sweats around the chin area and he looks like he is not all there. His eye look blurry and he looks very unhappy (almost depressed).
Not known medical conditions except for frequent urination at night. He believes it could be prostate problems….possibly even prostate cancer.
He has been exceptionally physically strong all this life and until recently he jogged on the street almost daily.
He had a drinking problem 15 years ago but he has not had any alcohol since then. He doesn’t smoke or do drugs. Like most men his age….he has a little bit of a belly brought by aging ….not by obesity.
He is very stubborn and refuses to go to the doctor for fear that his company will lay him off. Plse suggest medical condition

A: i wish that i could tell you exactly what it is but nausea can be associated with a number of things. I suggest that tomorrow you call his primary and get a appointment for him. They may want to run test on him to get a proper dx.

Good luck to you and your family

Q: Bladder, kindney cancer? I dont know what is going on! HELP!?
Ok, so my dad was complaining or pain in the groin area and lower back along with more frequent urination. The doc ordered a blood test and prostate ultrasound which both came back clear. He also did the yearly physical on my dad. My dad still tells the doctor the pain is there and my dad thinks he has prostatitis. the doc ordered a urine test and it came back saying there was small traces of blood in the urine. The doc sent it for urinalysis. What could this mean becuase i checked the symptoms of both of these cancers but still my dad does NOT have painful urination or an urge to urinate with nothing coming out. He just pees a lot more and has lower back and groin pain. What could this be I need to get peace of mind

A: If he had prostatitis he would have a fever. If the doctor ordered an ultrasound he was not likely a urologist and that is the kind of doctor he should be seeing.

Q: Anyone have any info on breakthrough bleeding issues like mine? Please read my story. Thank you for any help.?

Having lower back aches and a feelings of pinching and light burn near inside of hip.

Birthcontrol changes – yasmin, tri-clycen, generic yasmin – yasmin is best for while

When intercourse lots of fresh bright red blood. This happens during those weeks. On the only good week – no blood with intercourse.

In certain sexual positions sharp pain with each thrust.

Every time after intercourse have feeling best described as “reamed out” with very light – not enough to really bother cramping

Have had a clear healthy vaginal sonogram already

Moods – week before and week of period – feel like if someone looks at me wrong I could cry. All around just slow or kinda’ down feeling.

Symptoms/reasons for concern for possiblilty of thyroid or diabetes:

Dry skin – mostly hands and legs
Shaking – gets very strong if not eaten
Digestive problems – constipation if fiber not taken – can go 2-3 days w/o movement and then suddenly can’t stop going

Either great-great-grandmother or grandfather (Mom) not sure which one: Diabetes Type 2

Great-grandmother (Mom): Diabetes Type 2

A: Some of these symptoms can also be an indication of a problem like with the pituitary gland (an example only) or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (another example only).

I would recommend a consultation with an endocrinologist (a doctor that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders that relate to hormones) if you haven’t already to see what they think could be going on.

Q: Mystery to break-through bleeding..can any one help with information?
These were my symptoms: ( Dated April 2009 )

OK….. update now….. as of April 2010…
I went to doctor about all of the above and she suggested a low estrogen level and switched my birth control to Femcon. Now the bleeding has gone back to just when I’m ovulating (two weeks before my actual period). My period is the same though – one day of EXTREME pain and heavy bleeding and then usually 3 days of just moderate yet tolerable flow and pain and ending in a day of very light flow with little or no cramps. I’m still having the back pains when ovulating. So, my situation has technically improved from before yet I’m still bleeding when I’m not on my period which really puts a damper on my life. It still hurts in certain positions of intercourse so I avoid those positions. However, no bleeding after intercourse.(Maybe because I avoid those positions – I don’t know for sure) I’ve visited an endocrinologist and all my levels of everything are fine. I’ve had a vaginal sonogram and nothing is there. WHAT IS GOING ON?? I just want an answer. : (
I have had these problems now for almost 6 or 7 years. It is very depressing.
I also have problems with my stomach being very sensitive and a lot of gas / bloating issues.

A: Go back to another doctor and get a pap smear, and maybe an ultrasound. Are you sure you started the pill on the right day? I think you need to get smear and ultrasound done then take it from there. Can you stop the pill altogether till you know you have a normal period meaning one which is not given to you by the pill. You should not have pain as the pain we get with periods is ovulating pain, when on the pill you don’t ovulate that’s why so many girls with painful periods are put on the pill. As for your thyroid get a blood test to check its function. But please understand that when on the pill you don’t ovulate so no pain, you don’t get a normal period its a fake one given to you by the pill. Check your diet for the stomach stuff or have a breath test done to make sure there is no germ in there.
If i was your doctor i would order pap smear, ultrasound of stomach and pelvis, thyroid gland test, breath test to check for helicobacter germ and maybe fasting studies as well. Should be able to get most done same day if in Australia apart from ultrasound.

Q: Overactive Bladder in young adult?
I’m a 27 year old African American male. I have suffered from frequent urination for about the last five years. I get up an average of three times EVERY SINGLE night. I don’t drink very much at all. I’ve been checked and I’m not diabetic and the docs SAY my prostate is fine. The cystoscopy revealed a normal bladder. I suffer from all of the symptoms consistent with BPH and Prostate cancer. The docs always either blow me off or look puzzled becuz of my age.

A: You need a Urologist to either order a voiding cystourethragram and/or perform urometric tests measuring
bladder capacity and differential flow rates.

Q: Urology symptoms?
I am asking for helps again please. 36 years old, frequent urinations started (days & night without pain or burning sensations) 2 weeks ago. I took PSA and Chlamydia tests as ordered Chlamydia came back negative and PSA was slightly elevated 2.7 (cut off = 2.5). PCP asked me to retake the PSA after 2 weeks & gave me 2 weeks of Doxycycline. However, she told me that she’ll refer me a urologist whether the result is normal or abnormal. I was so depressed and came back 10 days later and asked for a PSA retest because I was not convinced about the result since she did not mention to me that there should be no sex for at least 48 hours and possibly excercise before the test which I played soccer within 24 hours before I took the 1st test. Total PSA is back in normal range 2.4, complexed PSA is 1.8 (I had sex 49 hours before the test). I’m now waiting for the approval to see specialist and being so depressed thinking of prostate cancer although the symptoms are 20-30% better. Please help me

A: go see the urologist. You may have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia which in a non-cancerous infection of the prostate. It takes a while for any antibiotics to work on this kind of infection because the blood flow is low to that area.

The sooner you go to the urologist, the sooner you can get healthy

Q: Could this be a spastic bladder?
Im 15YO and Im being heavily recruited for college football and so I lift a lot and I think I must have done something to my back when I did last week. Ever since then, I have been urinating more than i usually do a day. I ususally go about 4 or 5 times a day and now Im going 6 to 8 times a day. I know 6 is normal but 7 or 8 times isnt. Also when I go, I dont urinate a lot, I just get a little bit out. IT sounds a lot like a spastic bladder. I think I might have a disc problem or a spine problem cause i have upper and middle back pain and its kind of cnetered on my back. I dont think its diabetes or anything cacncerous like prostate cacncer cause I show no symptoms of any except for frequent urination and that could be caused by thousands of different things. No one in my family has ever had cancer or diabetes or serious illnesses.

A: It could be a urinary infection. If it doesn’t get better, a doctor should rule out anything harmful.

Some people who lift a lot do get tiny muscle spasms in their pelvic floor muscles called ‘trigger points’. They can refer discomfort, pain and dysfunction to other nearby areas.
